Mana
A brand that networks local makers to transform locally salvaged materials into accessible, local home goods.
Because an IKEA chair shouldn’t travel 10,000 miles before getting to your doorstep.
Mana rethinks the traditional brand to manufacturing relationship. Can manufacturers be neighbors? Can their materials be our communities’ waste?
Basically:
Local makers + Local waste = Locally made decor
Community by community, Mana leverages the power of digital fabrication and the army of makers behind it to transform locally salvaged materials into accessible, local home goods.
For design, it works like a web, sharing the same designs from city to city. In the physical realm, it is strictly local. A small team sources locally salvaged materials to be fabricated by local makers and delivered within the bounds of the city.
All pieces are designed to be fabricated solely with tools that are commonplace in maker labs across the country. This allows low barrier to entry for fabricators.
Mana vets fabricators and provides extensive how-to guides for the designs. The city’s team provides locally salvaged materials to them, checks pieces for quality control, and organizes local delivery.
When people buy Mana’s goods, they buy beautiful home goods at affordable prices, but they also buy into the idea—a more local future.
